PETER J.N. STRONG (Consultant to the Company)
Mr. Strong arrived in Bermuda in 1969 to work for Arthur Young and Company after training as an accountant in London where he was born.
He became involved with the offshore insurance industry in 1971 when he joined AIUO Ltd., a part of AIG. In 1975 he joined Johnson & Higgins as an Account Executive. There he became familiar with a number of Fortune 500 Companies which had begun incorporating captive insurance companies in Bermuda. Peter later helped start the Management and Broking company of Corroon & Black in Bermuda, accessing for the first time the then fledgling Bermuda reinsurance market.
In 1979, he teamed up with an associate to form the Somerset Group Ltd., providing insurance management and broking services. He later acquired one hundred percent of the company and formed what was to become Independent Management Ltd., one of the few truly independent companies in the offshore insurance industry (being aligned to no broking house).
In 2009 Peter sold his interest in IML and retired from the business. Less than a year later, Cyril H. Whitter, Jr., President and CEO of the company enticed Peter to rejoin the company as a consultant, noting that “Peter’s extensive experience in all aspects of insurance and reinsurance in the North American, London and international markets, as well as his expertise in the captive management business, will be invaluable as we seek to execute the company’s long term growth strategy”.
Among his many other accomplishments, Mr. Strong was chosen to be on the Committee of Inspection for the Run-Off of Cambridge Reinsurance Company, he served as a Director of General Electric Corporation's Bermuda-based Electric Mutual Liability Insurance Company Ltd.
Peter has been a member of both the Executive Committee of the Bermuda Insurance Management Association and the Marketing Division of the Bermuda Insurance Advisory Committee.
